These White Chocolate Dipped Valentine’s Day Cookies are Just as Fun to Make as They are to Look at.
For the longest time I used to only enjoy spritz cookies at Christmas time. My mom has always made spritz cookies in the shape of little green Christmas trees which I adore. Spritz cookies have a unique flavor and texture that is incomparable to any other cookie. You can roll them in a ball or extrude them from a cookie press. Either way, you’ll end up with a soft, moist, delicious bite-sized dessert with these Valentine’s Day Spritz cookies.
Who says spritz cookies are just for Christmas? These white chocolate dipped Valentine’s Day spritz cookies are sweet in every way, and are the perfect way to show your love this Valentines Day. They are equally as pretty as they are delicious. Believe it or not, they are not too difficult to make!

My mother is a self-proclaimed chocoholic. The more chocolate, the better in her opinion. If you don’t believe me, just ask my husband. He’d roll his eyes, look at you in disbelief, and ask you if you’ve ever seen her brownies. Of course you’ve never seen her brownies, to which he’ll explain to you that she tops her double-chocolate brownies with 3/4 inch of chocolate frosting. I personally love her brownies. My husband thinks it’s overkill. Maybe I should blog about them next.

This recipe I channeled my inner Diane and dipped my Valentine’s Day spritz cookies in chocolate, too. I melted 6 ounces of white chocolate and dipped 1/2 of each heart cookie, and then decorated each with sprinkles. I chose white chocolate because I thought it would visually look better with a pink cookie, but regular chocolate can be used, too.

If you choose to make Valentine’s Day spritz cookies with a cookie press, there are a few tips I’d like to share with you before you get started. Especially if you are a first-timer.
1.) Test It: Give your cookie press a couple pumps to make sure the dough has reached the tip before extruding your first cookie.
2.) Experiment: Spritz cookies need just the right amount of dough extruded to stick to the cookie sheet, but not too much or they’ll look like a blob. Experiment with how many pumps you need to give your press. With these hearts, my cookie press needed two pumps. However, with my Christmas trees, I only needed 1 1/2 pumps.
3.) Start Over: If a cookie comes out too small or too big, roll it back up and feed it back into the cookie press. You should be able to get all your cookies looking great since you can try again and again until you get the desired shape you want.
4.) No Grease: Do not grease your cookie sheet. If there is residual grease on your cookie sheet from a previous batch of cookies, you’ll have a hard time getting your spritz cookies to stick when you release them from the cookie press.
Melting Chocolate for White Chocolate Dipped Spritz Cookies
Melting chocolate used to give me a bit of anxiety as I recalled past efforts that did not work out so well. I found that I’d either burn it or it would turn dry and pasty, which was never a desired outcome. That was until I figured out the trick of a double-boiler, where you simply place a Pyrex bowl with the chocolate over a pot of boiling water, and melt the chocolate that way. EASY PEASY. I guess you’ll just have to make these white chocolate dipped spritz cookies. No excuses now. 😉
After your chocolate is melted, dip your cooled Valentine’s Day spritz cookies in the chocolate to your desired depth (I did 1/2 cookie), and place on wax paper. The wax paper will prevent it from sticking. Once the white chocolate had cooled enough to handle the cookie, I transferred them to a cookie tin and refrigerated them overnight. The cold refrigerator helped the chocolate completely harden, making them easy to handle. (Refrigeration afterwards is not necessary, the chocolate remains hard).

Cute heart-shaped spritz cookies dipped in white chocolate and decorated with Valentine’s Day sprinkles. Couldn’t be any sweeter.
- 1 cup Butter, softened
- 1/2 heaping cup Granulated sugar
- 1 Egg
- 1 tsp Vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp Almond extract
- 3/4 tsp Salt
- 2 1/2 cups Flour
- Sprinkles, colored sugar for decorating
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add egg, vanilla extract, almond extract, and salt, and mix well. Add flour and mix well.
Prepare your cookie press. Fill cookie press with dough, and press cookies onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 6 minutes.
While cookies are baking, melt chocolate in double-boiler until creamy and solids are completely melted. Reduce heat to low to keep chocolate melted for dipping.
Remove cookies from oven and cool. Dip desired amount of cookie into melted chocolate and place on wax paper. Decorate with sprinkles or colored sugar.
My entire family enjoyed these Valentines Day spritz cookies. They package well in small clear bags for gifts, and stay fresh up to a couple weeks when kept in an air-tight container. I hope you enjoy them as much as we did! Don’t misplace this recipe, pin it for later!
