Chicken Gyros

Marinated grilled chicken and freshly prepared Tzatziki Sauce served on warm pita bread.

Tzatziki Sauce:

  • 1 1/2 cups nonfat plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp white wine vinegar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 English cucumber shredded and drained

Chicken Marinade

  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 tbsp nonfat plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 tsp white wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless, chicken breasts cubed
  • 4-6 Greek pitas or flatbread

Gyro Toppings (optional)

  • 1 tomato chopped
  • 1/2 red onion chopped
  • 1 English cucumber diced
  • parsley chopped
  • Feta cheese crumbles


Tzatziki Sauce Preparation

  • Mix together yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice, white wine vinegar, salt, dill, and garlic. Squeeze the cucumber to remove excess water.  Add in grated cucumber and seasonings. Stir to combine thoroughly. Can be made ahead of time.

Chicken Preparation

  • Mix together the marinade ingredients in a resealable bag and add cubed chicken. Marinate the chicken for 4-8 hours. 
  • Skewer the chicken to prepare kabobs.  Heat grill to medium heat. Cook for 5-7 minutes per side or until chicken is fully cooked. Pita bread can be warmed in a low heat oven or microwave.
  • Serve on warm pita bread with Tzatziki sauce and your choice of toppings.
