Our Chocolate Chip Toffee Dessert Bar recipe is one of our family’s favorites, and is perfect for any occasion. Chocolate Chips and toffee bits make this chewy dessert bar sweet and with just a smidge of salty crunch. My mother has been baking this recipe for years, and they’ve always been a crowd-pleaser.
This recipe is easy, but make sure you follow it close, because many of the steps involve splitting and reserving ingredients to create a layered-bar. We store the bars on the counter top and not in the refrigerator since the toffee and chocolate tend to get too hard to cut when they are cold. Serve with a nice cold glass of milk and be careful, they are addicting. You just might find yourself cutting just a little bit more.
Ingredients
2 1/3 cups flour
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup butter
1 egg, beaten
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided
1 (14 oz) can of sweetened condensed milk
1 3/4 cups toffee bits
Instructions
1.) Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 13×9″ baking pan
2.) Combine flour and brown sugar in a large bowl. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add egg and mix well. Stir in 1-1/2 cups chocolate chips. Set aside 1-1/2 cups crumb mixture.
3.) Press remaining crumb mixture onto bottom of prepared baking pan. Bake for 10 minutes. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over hot crust, and top with 1-1/2 cups toffee bits. Sprinkle remaining crumb mixture and remaining 1/2 cups chocolate chips over top.
4.) Bake 25 – 30 minutes or until golden brown. Sprinkle remaining 1/4 cup toffee bits. Cool and serve.
Enjoy!
